Friday night started with a bang since I washed my phone in the washing machine on Thursday and had to resort to the phone that somehow dried out after being dropped in Coke a month or so ago.
Angela and I decided to attend an event called the StyleCup. Ashley and Mayra were both taking part in the event, which is a hair, makeup, and style competition among varoious salons and spas in Austin. They fix up the models and judges judge their work and award a best in show award. Its pretty much a dog show with people. So Ang and I roll up to Palmer Auditorium with the expectations of attending a fashion show. We walk in and get in line at the box office to pick up our tickets that were at will call. I start looking at the other people in the room and begin to feel very odd. I was bigger than most all of the men in the room. Stranger than that, I was about the same size as most of the women in the room. I didnt really pay attention at first but as I stood there for a minute I realized, the men are in fact women and the women are in fact men. Girls had facial hair taped to their face in hopes of making themselves look more like men. The more I looked around, the more I realized that Angela and I were the only two normal people there. All of this realizing took place over the course of about one minute. I was like "uh, I think we're in the wrong place". We found out there was another exhibit hall and that the StyleCup was taking place on the other side of the building. So we departed what appeared to be the damn Barnum and Bailey tryouts and left all of the bearded ladies, giant women, and midgets (yes there were some of them also) behind. After getting to the correct side, we found ourselves sitting in the VIP section complete with appetizers and reserved seating. Worked out nice, had a good time, saw some interesting costumes and ran into some people I know. Pretty unique Friday evening.
